Design House LLC is a one-woman architectural firm founded by me, Donna LeFurgey. I have been living and designing in Taos for over 30 years. When I came to Taos, I designed and owner-built my own passive solar adobe home, which I still live in.
Throughout my years in Taos, I have been actively involved in construction, not only in the building of my own home, but I have worked on construction crews building adobe spec homes, acted as a sub-contractor (laying brick floors, plastering interior and exterior, and laying adobes) and have supervised Habitat for Humanity volunteers building homes in Taos.

What is green building? Also called sustainable building, green building is a design philosophy which works towards efficient resource use, such as energy, water and materials, while reducing the overall impact the building has on both the environment and human health.
How does it work? It starts with an energy efficient design and using building materials that are considered green. Green building also incorporates environmentally sensitive construction methods and systems such as passive solar heating, water catchment, photovoltaic electric, passive cooling and grey water systems.
